PUBLICATION (Creation in progress)
“Just as words keep the memory of the past and present alive, food and recipes, like the pages of a book, are the receptacle of our memory.”
Marcela Camacho
The project, still in the process of creation, is based on the collection of stories and recipes from the experience of people of diverse origins, genders and ages, rescuing the identity-based relationship between food and social constructions.
The proposal is based on the premise that every recipe contains a story. Anyone who eats it can share a recipe and the story behind it, as these contain the oral memory and identity of a person, a family, a community, a country.
Marcela Camacho, a cook and storyteller, is the artist who has been collecting these stories and recipes for two years. The research process, in which different languages come together, is based on the exploration of oral tradition and its translation into various narrative forms.
The product of this research will be a printed book of stories and recipes, in which the story and the illustration are the common thread, where gastronomy, narrative and illustration are woven together as custodians of food memories, identities and cultural imaginaries.
